GDC - 2026 State of the Game Industry Report

In January [GDC] Festival of Gaming released their 2026 State of the Game Industry report.

The report includes insights into demographics, industry layoffs, generative AI, engines, platforms, and features, the business of games and advocacy.

One interesting pick from the report was that "majority of game workers would like to join a union". From our perspective this is an important and highly impactful statement backed by data. Their results show that 82% of the respondents support unionization of the game industry workers. It is good to keep in mind that the respondents were mostly US based.
