Gmoffi Corner - Industry Highlight: Sustainable Games Alliance
5.6.2026

The Sustainable Games Alliance (SGA) helps game companies to optimise resource usage through data-driven insights, provides reporting support, and fosters industry-wide knowledge sharing and efficient data exchange. Our mission is to make games the most sustainable form of entertainment, with decarbonisation as a priority. Because if not us, then who?
What do we do?
The Sustainable Games Alliance takes a proactive and data-driven approach to facilitate systematic emissions reduction at the industry level. By offering our members access to best practices, guides, workshops, and a collection of resources, we make emission reduction and reporting both time and cost efficient. For example, did you know that you can reduce energy consumption when players are idle and extend playtime on battery-powered platforms by up to 15% when using power saving plugins for Unreal, Unity, and Godot?
We are stewards of the Sustainable Games Standard – a framework built by games companies, local games associations, and leading environmental scientists. This covers everything from game design and server infrastructure to marketing and hardware. It helps developers to accurately track and understand emissions related to games, optimise energy consumption and performance, reduce hardware load, and extend battery life. What’s more, it can be integrated into game engines, platforms, and services, enabling easier data accessibility and greater transparency. Adopting our Standard is a cost-effective way to report emissions, understand and optimise resource usage, and improve both your games and your players’ experience.
